Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, (presently Onesti(born November 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, now One Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi who was the Romanian gymnastics trainer who would become Comaneci's coach later in life she discovered her when she was six. Her first competition was at the national junior championships of 1969, finishing 13th. She won the competition in 1970. In 1972, during the communist nations' meet for junior athletes before the Olympics she was awarded 3 gold and silver medals. In 1973 and '74 she was the overall junior champion. She took home four gold medals and one silver medals in her debut competition as a senior, held in 1975. This was the first time she participated as a senior. She was the first female ever to perform a backwards double salto when dismounting from an uneven parallel bar. Her journey in the world of entertainment began in her teens when she started skating figure alongside her younger sibling Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show called Ice Capades. Carol Marie Wayne is a American citizen who was born on September 6 1942, in Chicago Illinois. Carol started her career in entertainment in her teens. Early on, Carol began as a figure skater for traveling shows Ice Capades with her sister Nina Wayne. These shows included ice skating performances that were performed to music from the stage.
