Patricia Ann, her mother taught at a local college. In the hopes of following his father's path her graduation was an education in chemical engineering. She moved in New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. While appearing in Broadway shows, she was employed as a waitress. Her former husband Scott Foley met her on the TV show "Felicity," where she appeared as a character. Garner was given her first major role on the screen in "13 Goin' on 30" which was a romantic comedy which was highly acclaimed. She played a teenage girl who was trapped within the adult body. Garner chose Gary Winick as the director of her movie. The team continued to look for new projects after Winick's demise in the year 2011. Garner, who was designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. in 2009, was a key role in the nonprofit organization. The job entails the promotion of national education, nutrition, and literacy as well as early learning. Garner has been a member of the board for the non-profit group from 2014. She advocates early learning for children. As a member of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) Ambassador team for the EASS program Garner has visited families on a regular basis to provide them with strategies to inspire their kids to achieve.
